Visible mending is the practice of repairing clothing in a way that intentionally shows the repair, rather than hiding it.
Instead of trying to make a garment look “like new,” the mend becomes part of the design—often using contrasting thread, decorative stitching, or patches to highlight the repair.
It sits somewhere between repair and creative expression:
Beyond aesthetics, visible mending is often connected to sustainability and slow fashion, encouraging people to extend the life of their garments and value them over time, rather than discarding them.
-
It’s essentially the opposite of visible mending. The goal is to repair a garment so the damage is as unnoticeable as possible, blending seamlessly into the original fabric.
Visible mending is not always an option for repair. It suitable for things like;
Sewing a hole in a seamline
Replacing a zipper
Sewing on a new button
darning a hole in a knitted garment in matching coloured yarn
It is not suitable for;
Tears in the surface of a fabric
Moth holes in fine knitwear
-
Nyssa will provide an individual quote for your garment as each mending job is unique.
Roughly Mending is costed at $40 per hour.
